Burlington's Pioneer Villages - Tansley
.
Introduction. Tansley was originally known as St. Ann's. In 1884 Joseph Tansley took over as postmaster and the postoffice as well as the village adopted his name. Joseph's grandfather, John Tansley settled in this area in the late 1820's. Tansley was a busy community by 1876. It boasted a grist mill, saw mill, hotel, post office and school. The village vanished in the 1960's.

The four piers of the old Tansley Bridge can still be clearly seen. This bridge was completed in 1919. At right is the old Burloak and Dundas Street intersection. The road has been closed for traffic for many years but the old traffic sign is still there. New homes being build can be seen in the background.
