Directions

Magnetic Hill is located 1 1/2 miles west of I-35 and Highway 53 West to Pioneer/Pitt Road, then turn north and go about 1/2 mile to the bottom of the hill (Pitt Road is NW of Springer, Oklahoma). As you drive to the bottom of the hill you'll be heading north off Highway 53.


Looking south toward highway 53. Stop your car at the x, put it in neutral, let off the brake and something will pull you south up the hill at 16 km's (10 miles) an hour!
Looking north.Stop your car at the x, put it in neutral, let off the brake and you will be pulled backwards up the hill.

WARNING. You are on a public road! Obey all traffic signs and rules. Where there are hills there are blind spots. Always bring someone to watch for other traffic. Never try the hill when the road is wet and slippery or during inclement winter weather conditions.

After trying this natural phenomenon you may question it's causes. Well, we don't want to disappoint you, but whether it is called a Magnetic Hill, Gravity Hill, Mystery Hill or Electric Brae it is an optical illusion. It has nothing to do with magnetic fields, electricity or unknown forces working along mysterious lines.


Area History
Springer Oklahoma, Carter County. Population 485 (1990), 172 (2000). Carter County was created in 1907 from part of the old Chickasaw Nation. Pickens County was renamed Carter County in honor of Ben Carter, prominent Native American of the Chickasaw Nation. Most of the towns retained their names, which came from the Post Offices of the Indian Territories.
