This picture was taken a few years before the tower burned down. In the late 1950s Fort Steele was a virtual ghost town with only a few residents left. Between 1961and 1967 the Province of British Columbia turned Fort Steele into a Heritage Site. The current look-out tower at Fort Steele Heritage Town is a replica of this tower.
