Water tower at the Provincial Papermill. The mill's machinery was moved to Thorold ON in the early 1950s, prior to the entire village being inundated to make way for the St. Lawrence Seaway project. Inundation started on 1 July, 1958. More than 6500 people, in nine communities, and 530 homes were moved. Many moved to the newly created communities of Long Sault and Ingleside. The nine lost villages were: Mille Roches, Moulinette, Wales, Dickinson’s Landing, Farran’s Point, and Aultsville as well as the hamlets of Maple Grove, Santa Cruz and Woodlands.
