Callander (population 3,184) is situated on the south-eastern shore of Lake Nipissing.
On May 28, 1934 Callander's doctor Dr. A.R. Dafoe assisted in the births of five identical baby girls, the world’s first surviving quints, the Dionne Quintuplets, in the neighbouring village of Corbeil.
