| Photo Credits: Bervac, serving the paper industry Tower Message: Long Sault Tower Location: Bethune Avenue and Mille Roche Road Tower Information (09-05) Built: Height: Capacity: Water Source: Area Information: Long Sault is part of the Township of South Stormont (near Cornwall) and so are Bonville, Ingleside, St. Andrews West , Lunenburg, Newington, Northfield Station, Osnabruck Centre and Eamer's Corners. Long Sault and Ingleside were created in the late 1950's to accommodate 6500 displaced people when their communities were flooded to widen the St. Lawrence Seaway. Inundation started on 1 July, 1958. The nine lost villages were: Mille Roches, Moulinette, Wales, Dickinsons Landing, Farrans Point, and Aultsville as well as the hamlets of Maple Grove, Santa Cruz and Woodlands. |

Of all the villages, Mille Roches lies deepest in the water, 12.2 m. (40 ft.) below the surface. Its outline can still be seen under the right lighting conditions. The location has become a popular spot for divers. To read more on this click on submerged villages. |
